Are you entitled to defend yourself and property?

You’re a kind and gentle person, and violence is the last thing on your mind. Sadly, you’ve recently been put in a situation where you felt that you had no choice but to use violence. Defending yourself

If you genuinely feel that a violent attack against you is imminent, then you are entitled to defend yourself. However, there are conditions. You must only use the amount of force that is necessary to repel the attacks.

Defending your family

There is nothing more important to you than the security of your family. When you see that this is in danger, are you allowed to defend them using force? In short, the answer is yes. If you genuinely believe that a third person is going to be subjected to physical harm, then you are entitled to use the amount of force that is necessary to repel the attack. Again, the amount of force used must be proportionate.

What about your property?

If an intruder enters your property with the intent to do harm then you have a duty to tell them to leave before acting. If they refuse and you believe that they are dangerous, you are entitled to use force to protect your property. Self-defense cases can be tricky to navigate as every situation is unique.
